Imitation Fruit Literary Journal
Issue 4, May 2009

Announcement:

Imitation Fruit issue number 5 will be online the beginning of November. Please check back with us then for new poems, stories and artwork.

Hello! Welcome to the 4th issue of Imitation Fruit. If you have visited us before then you can see that some changes have been made to our journal. The table of contents has been made over to make navigation easier to our stories, poems and artwork.

This is our largest issue yet with eleven poets and seven short-story authors sharing their work. Among our several returning artists, we have three new art contributors to this issue. Jeff Neubebauer’s painting of a female clown can be seen with Squeaky the Clown, Ron Meadow’s painting of a Yellow Rose is paired with the story Shrinking, and Courtney Jasiulek’s illustration of a chocolate eating chipmunk can be seen with her poem, At the Organic Frozen-Food Section.

As you read the stories and poems in this issue you may notice a few themes. Some of the poems give fruit qualities that you might not normally associate with fruit such as fruit being playful, sensual or even menacing. There are several pieces in this issue about clowns. Clowns are supposed to be funny characters for entertainment purposes. I have always been afraid of clowns. Maybe it is the over done make up and wild costumes that put me off. The clowns in this issue are also more dimensional than what is usually thought of them.

In the last issue of Imitation Fruit we ran a contest for what could be done with the concept or word “Liberal.” Melissa Guillet won the contest for her poem, Mangoes. We are running another contest during this issue of Imitation Fruit. See the side bar for more information. We have extended the deadline for submissions for issue 5 of the journal. Please see our submissions section for more details.

As always we thank you for your readership and hope that you will pass Imitation Fruit along to your friends and family.
